Paula Cole - This Fire (1996)

To dismiss anything about this record would be a very serious mistake on your part, dear (non-)reader of this blog. It will tear you a new asshole and stitch it right back up by the end. Just because that last track was on Dawsons Creek in the 90's does not lessen its impact on the record as a whole, and just because Paula Cole was one of a handful of lady artists to come out and make music in the 90's does not lessen the importance of this album as both serious and seriously awesome. I rediscovered this record, which was much more meaningful to me now than it was when I was 8 and got it in my Easter basket (hahaha). Give it a go; if you're in touch with any part of your human emotional capacity, you won't be disappointed.

Two PJ Harvey albums.

I cannot seem to put the following two albums down; maybe it's this weather. The first one, Dry, is a really raw, dark, obsessive Polly that I adore so much. The second is more beat-y, almost electronic in feeling. Also dark, it's on par with Tori Amos' From The Choirgirl Hotel, if that helps at all. Though they're labeled both 90's and 'alternative', do not mistake these for some lame rock-alternative crap from that era. These two are seriously excellent (and seriously addictive as of late).

PJ Harvey and John Parish - A Woman A Man Walked By (2009)

HERE IS THE NEW PJ HARVEY RELEASE! I discovered PJ Harvey for real when I was almost out of high school, and since then she's been one of my favourite artists, not only because of how excellent her musicianship, lyrics and overall state of being are, but also because she was one of the first artists I noticed that I had to grow up to appreciate. I'm usually very weary of my artists' new material for fear of radical disappointment, but this is a pleasant, refreshing treat. My two favourite tracks are "A Woman A Man Walked By", in which Polly emits a high-pitched bark, and "Pig Will Not", in which she screams, "I WANT YOUR FUCKING ASS," --- who could ask for more?! The rest of the album will (most likely) not disappoint you either.

Two Pulp albums.

English pop-alternative band Pulp, fronted by Jarvis Cocker, was pretty neat.

Russian Red - I Love Your Glasses (2008)

I don't know much about this woman other than that she's based out of Spain and has made a really interesting record that puts her polished, almost Cat Power-y voice and guitaring on display in a way that makes this entire piece really enjoyable.

Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive (1976)

Every part of this album, particularly the gratuitous use of the talk box, rules. Completely.

Cat Power - Jukebox (2008)

Here is the newest record from Southern, blues-y, poetic and Faulknerian Chan Marshall, who is fantastic at worst. I have been in love with this woman's music for so, so long. This one isn't too bad either. Regrettably, I missed her at Bonnaroo, which was a shame for sure, but when I saw her in October of 2007 she was GREAT. Her music hits a special spot for me.

New Radicals - Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too (1998)

Gregg Alexander, the man behind New Radicals, is a reclusive genius who never played live shows or did interviews even though he got a bunch of musicians together and put out this absolutely immaculate record. This was one of my favourite albums of the nineties, and I'm posting it so everyone can have access.
