A mix of Smiths covers!

If you know me at all, you know I love cover songs, be they awesome or horrible. I recently realized that I had a few Smiths songs covered by various artists floating around in my music library and iPod, so I've done my best to compile what I had and then proceeded to scour the ends of the internet looking for. There are two compilation CD's of Smiths covers that I found on Amazon, but neither sounded very good from the sampling I did; all of these are good, however. The tracklist is staggered in a way that puts some more frequently recurring songs apart from each other. If you have a good Smiths cover, please don't hesitate to let me know or even email me with it at rhinestonez@gmail.com. Otherwise, enjoy!!

Two more Black Moth Super Rainbow albums!

Because you can never have enough spaced-out, technicolour electronica made by foresty, reclusive hippies with both real instruments and synthesizers. Mostly for you, Justin!

Start A People (2007)

Drippers (2008)

Big Black - Songs About Fucking (1988)

I'm still discovering this band, but I wanted to pay forward what I was able to dig up: so far, only this, which is loud, crunchy, slightly underproduced and aggressive.

Bat For Lashes - Two Suns (2009)

I don't know if this has been officially released yet, but I've had it in its entirety for about two months now, I think. It's pretty dreamy, dark and excellent, a formidable opponent to Bat For Lashes' first release, which can be found by pushing back a few pages on this site. Also, dig this cover art, which is much better when viewed in a larger size. I'm finally getting to see this girl and her melodic, night-time pop in May, and I could not be more excited!

Two Psychic TV albums.

Psychic TV was the band that Genesis P. Orridge formed with another member of Throbbing Gristle after the latter was defunct. It's not quite as grinding and harsh as Throbbing Gristle, but it's still an overall good time. This post is mostly for Tom, who had not heard them last I checked.

Dreams Less Sweet (1983)

Allegory and Self (1988)

Two Ozric Tentacles albums.

Ozric Tentacles were a psychedelic band formed in 1970's England, but not in the same sense that Pink Floyd was 'psychedelic'. Indeed, I think this group pinned down the mind-bending aspect of the word moreso than Pink Floyd, who seemed more conceptual, much more lyrically abstract than musically. There are words to these songs, which, in my opinion, makes them closer to ideal, and if you're doing any kind of hallucinogenic drugs (or even just smoking weed), this is probably a nice addition to your experience. Ahem. Here are two of their more recent cuts.

Strangeitude (1991)

Tantric Obstacles / Erpsongs (2001)

Two Pulp albums.

English pop-alternative band Pulp, fronted by Jarvis Cocker, was pretty neat.

It (1983)

Freaks (1986)

Ugh.

I have been so negligent, not because I don't care, not because I'm not listening to music I'd love to push at anyone who reads this (even occasionally), but because school has been pwning me. More music is coming.
